Strict NOs in business

Submitted in Business on February 22, 2010 No Comment

Starting up a business is as hard as finding water in a desert, nearly still we try our best to find water and some where across the miles we manage to find some and quench our thirst, isn’t it? The same is the case with business, where opportunities are vast but we have to strive hard to get some material in our business. Here the material stuff includes, your human resource, buyers, suppliers, manufacturers and whole lots of people included in a business.

Although a businessman gives his best shot to establish his business, there are some stupid mistakes that go unnoticed and they give rise to the fall of an empire. After much research and talking to the executives of shattered companies, I realized some common few mistakes they did while planning, executing, implementing and designing of business. Here business lessonsare some of the business lessons to be learnt:

  • Get real:
Thinking big is no bad but do it in accordance with the resources you have. None of the bigger companies today thought of making it big when they started off. If you think very big when your company is still small then it will lead you to spend much more than you had ideally expected. The most important characteristic you possess as a small company is the agility, you can change your strategies, your plans, your policies while you are small and make changes as per the resources that are available with you.
  • Direction:
Decide a path for your business, where you want to take your business? In business, it’s never what and how you want, your customers decide what they want and what needs to be done. While you are in business, it’s very much necessary to have a vision that would be a guiding force for future activities in your business. You can survey your customers and make the changes accordingly.
  • Money:
Many people have misconceptions relating to their business. They are of the opinion, that if they have money any type of problem can be sorted out but in real terms of sense, money is only going to increase your problems. With money, you will only get comforts but it does not satisfy the real needs of your business.
  • Human Resource:
Things look good from the one side of a coin. You may designate a particular job title to some employee looking at his qualifications but that employee might not be suitable when it comes to practical work. Make sure that you do that job at least for a week to figure out what type of person is perfectly suited for that job.
  • Talent:
An ideal businessman would want the talented employee for the business who will drive his business to the fullest extent possible. But there are hurdles which may ruin your business as these talented employees are less passionate compared to the new comers and may want higher salaries which could not be possible for you to pay at this point, they have their own style of working so you cannot set your own working style on them. While, the fresh batch is more than willing to work, at any salary, your preferred style of working and other related stuff.
  • Emotions:
Emotions never work in business; it cannot thrive on the same platform as your business strategies and plans. Sometimes, when you feel a bit emotional you can step back, relax and think over all the possibilities before taking up a wiser decision.
  • Direction:
In business you cannot just sit back and plan things all in your mind, in short, you just cannot think and expect things to happen automatically. You have to work hard and derive yourself at a position where all your efforts are productive and yield good results.
  • Focus:
Every business would strive for expansion but you should move forward with all the preparation in mind. Like you have to focus on the production if you want to increase your sales, you should have more income to hire new employees, etc.

No business gets successful at just one go; there are mistakes, which are the stumbling blocks to success. You just cannot go on and on with whatever you think is right, there are times where you need professionals to help you out especially when your business is expanding. If you ought to make any stupid mistake, don’t get nervous. We all make mistakes and are bound to make mistakes; the wiser people will learn something new from the mistakes!
