Making Brochures on MS Word

Submitted in Advertising on November 21, 2011 No Comment

There are several options in MS Word for making brochures. One of the most used options is making brochures by selecting and downloading a preferred brochure template from the wide range of brochure templates available on the official website of Microsoft. You can also create a brochure in MS Word beginning from scratch. Below, we have discussed the steps of creating a brochure on MS Word 2010 (these instructions can be adjusted for creating a brochure on all versions of Word).

Step 1:
Start by making a perfect visual illustration of your brochure. Fold a blank paper having dimensions 8.5/11 inches into 3 equal parts (fold in the same way as we fold a letter). Next, unfold it and put it in your front in landscape fashion. The paper must have 2 creases, which will separate it into 3 equal columns. Now, sketch an outline in brief about the content of each page; while doing so remember that your first column is acting at the heading page of the brochure. The heading page will include name, brief introduction, a corresponding graphic image or picture and the contact details. The remaining two columns will include all the other essential facts, arranged sequentially.

Step 2:

Making brochures on MS WordOpen a MS Word document and set up the page in landscape view. The page will have 1.5 inches left as margin on each of its sides. For doing that, go to the toolbar menu (you will get it right at the top of the page) and click on the ‘Page Layout’ option. Then again click on ‘Orientation’ and finally select ‘Landscape’. For margins, click on the option ‘Narrow’ by going to ‘Margins’ tab.

Step 3:

Create 3 columns on the page.  To do that, go to the tab named ‘Page Layout’ and select ‘Columns’. In the ‘Columns’ section there’s a option called ‘More Columns’, select that option and click the icon ‘Three’. Keep 1 inch space between columns. Now, click ‘OK’.

Step 4:
Now choose the size, type, and color of the font in which the content of the columns will be written. Pick fonts that can be read easily. For headings, links of websites or any other important info choose a difference size and color; but the font should be same.

Step 5:

MS WordIf you need to insert images and pictures into your brochure, do that by taking pictures from Wordart or clip art. Click on ‘Insert’ tab present on the page’s toolbar menu for getting the options ‘Wordart’ and ‘clip art’. It is quite obvious that the picture you are choosing must be related to the topic of the brochure. If you need to edit the picture, right click on it and choose the option ‘Format Picture’.

Step 6:
As you create the brochure, keep on saving the document often. Once the typing work is done, perform a thorough spell check. Do this both manually and taking the help of the spell check tool of MS Word. Now, the brochure is ready. Take a print out and use it for advertising your services or products.
